AHMIR: Future, Veeze, Sade, Frank Ocean, Fali.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO MUSIC? WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO GO WITH YOUR MUSIC?
AHMIR: Growing up I always had an interest and ear for music, I remember being curious early on about things my family played around me. I knew it was something I wanted to do the first time I heard my cousin's music in about 1st grade.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
AHMIR: Success to me is attaining happiness without having to compromise yourself or your vision. It doesn’t always look like a big win but if it's a step in the right direction it’s success.
WHEN DID YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO BEGIN TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
AHMIR: Well, my friends and family knew I had a love for music and poetry at a young age so it wasn’t like they’d never heard anything. Even with my first few songs at around 13 years old I was pretty confident in sharing it and even displaying my talent. I’d say I took things to a bigger scale around 16 or 17 when I started to really promote the fact that I was making music and getting people outside of my family to listen.
WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU?
AHMIR: Style is how you express yourself through different mediums, down to the most minute details. The way a person talks, the way they look, the way they chew their gum, or fix their hair. These small choices reflect a bigger picture to the world and that’s what becomes classified as style, the same principles apply in the way someones dress, or their musical choices. Style is the personification of your ego.
HOW DO YOU THINK MUSIC AND FASHION GO HAND IN HAND?
To me sight and sound are married, if your hear rain against your house, before you go to check the window it’s likely you’ll start to picture the rain, if you see a horse running with a TV on mute, you’ll unconsciously start to fill in that blank space with whatever sound you see fit.
Simply put, music and fashion are two mediums that can survive individually but are elevated to a much higher level when put together.
WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO GO WITH MUSIC (WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AND YOUR MUSIC IN 5-10 YEARS)?
I want to go down as the greatest to ever do this, I just want my work to be respected, and I want to create experiences that can’t be duplicated. I want to excel in my own unique way and leave something that will last beyond my time here.
